Hello and Welcome!

 Shalako is located in northern Alabama.

We are a small family owned kennel and have been breeding and showing dogs for well over 30 years. We hope you will enjoy your visit and stop by often.  Shalako is the home of  National Specialty winning Schipperkes, multiple Best in Shows, Group winning and Obedience winning Schipperkes!

Our show dogs live in our public boarding kennel and you may visit the kennel facilities at www.topdogboarding.com

Our  schipperke puppies and adults are well socialized and when we part with them, they insist on "house dog status" and must go to homes with fenced in yards.  Please be advised, we are very picky about where our dogs go to live, so be prepared to answer lots of questions and provide references when you inquire about a Shalako bred puppy. 

We breed an average of 2-4 litters a year for our personal breeding program and keep what we want and offer the others to qualified pet homes.  Occasionally we sell to other breeders, however, our main goal is to find forever homes for our dogs where they can live in the house and be a part of the family.    We retire our Champions usually at the age of 4-5 so that they might find "forever" homes as well.

If you are interested in a schipperke puppy or a retired champion as a pet, please include a detailed message when you email us about your past experience in dogs, and the type of home you will offer one of our schips.  All of our dogs are sold with the understanding that not only will YOU be happy with the dog...the dog will be happy with YOU as well.  All have a "lifetime" buy back guarantee, and if you ever have to part with the dog, Shalako reserves the first right to buy the dog back from you, or to help you sell the dog to another responsible home.  See our sales contract here.
